Valley of Colors, Mural artwork in La Trinidad, Philippines.
Valley of Colors is a hillside village in La Trinidad where hundreds of homes are painted with bright colors and patterns that cover the mountainside. The houses sit closely together and form large designs that you can see from a distance away.
The project started in 2016 when the government and local leaders decided to paint the homes together. Residents from three nearby settlements came together to transform their village with bright colors.
Local painters designed patterns with sunflowers and rainbows that show how the community sees itself and what it values. The residents chose these symbols to express their identity.
You can visit the village any time during the day and night without paying any entrance fee. It is best to go in the morning when the light shows the colors best and there are fewer people around.
More than 500 residents personally painted their own homes using thousands of liters of paint for the project. Their hands-on participation made this a community effort rather than just a beautification campaign.
