Venice Grand Canal Mall, Shopping center with European design in Taguig, Philippines
Venice Grand Canal Mall is a shopping center in Taguig built around a man-made canal roughly 200 meters long, where boats styled after Venetian gondolas operate. The entire site lies within the McKinley Hill district and spreads across approximately 50 hectares, with Italian-inspired buildings and public areas throughout.
Megaworld Corporation opened the center to the public in September 2015, as part of a larger residential project in the area. Two years after opening, the building received an award for best retail architectural design at the Philippine Property Awards.
The building concept draws from Venetian originals, but on the waterways Philippine gondoliers sing local songs for visitors. This mix of imported architecture and homegrown entertainment makes the shopping experience an unusual combination of two different worlds.
Shops and restaurants open daily between 11 in the morning and 11 at night, though individual tenants may vary slightly from this schedule. From Guadalupe station, take a jeepney heading toward Market Market FTI Gate 3, then walk to the site from there.
At a plaza modeled after the Piazza San Marco, visitors can feed pigeons during afternoon hours, which gather there regularly. The scene echoes the European model, even though the surroundings and climate differ greatly from the Adriatic city.
