Bangued Cathedral, Catholic cathedral in Bangued, Philippines.
Bangued Cathedral is a Catholic cathedral in the town center of Bangued, in the province of Abra on the island of Luzon, built in the baroque style. It has a stone facade, a bell tower, and stained glass windows inside the main hall.
The church was founded in 1722 and completed in 1785, after Spanish missionaries had established a presence in the region. Bombing in 1945 destroyed much of the building, and it was rebuilt over the years that followed.
The cathedral faces the town plaza and acts as the main gathering point for religious life in Bangued. Weddings, baptisms, and feast day masses draw people from across the surrounding area throughout the year.
The cathedral stands next to the central plaza of Bangued and is easy to reach on foot from most parts of the town center. Visiting outside main mass times makes it easier to walk through the interior without interruption.
Although the building was almost entirely destroyed in 1945, the thick stone walls and bell tower survived without collapsing. These original sections were kept as part of the rebuilt structure, so the church today contains both old stonework and newer construction side by side.
