Islamabad International Airport, International airport in Attock District, Pakistan
Islamabad International Airport sits in Fateh Jang Tehsil within Attock District and serves as the main gateway for Pakistan's capital region. The facility includes a large terminal with multiple levels for departures, arrivals, and baggage claim, as well as sections for international and domestic flights.
Construction began in April 2007 as a replacement for the capital's previous airport, and the facility opened for operations in May 2018. The move allowed a significant expansion in capacity and improved connections for travelers to the Islamabad and Rawalpindi region.
The terminal's architecture incorporates modern Pakistani design elements while serving as a gateway for diplomatic officials and international visitors to the capital region.
Travelers reach the airport via the Srinagar Highway or use the metrobus rapid transit service, which provides connections to Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The terminals offer clear signage, and information desks help with questions about flights, connections, and general procedures.
The site covers more than 1,300 hectares and was built on what was formerly agricultural land. Planned expansions will create capacity for millions of additional passengers per year.
