Lower Dir District, Administrative district in Malakand Division, Pakistan.
Lower Dir District is an administrative region in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province that spreads across valleys and mountains. Timergara serves as its administrative center and main urban settlement.
The region was formerly a princely state until it became part of Pakistan's administration in 1969. In 1996, the original Dir District was divided, creating Lower Dir as the southern portion.
The local population speaks Pashto and follows traditional tribal customs that shape daily life and community decisions. These practices remain visible throughout the region, from how families build their homes to how neighbors interact with one another.
The district is divided into seven administrative units that manage local services and affairs. This structure helps visitors understand how local facilities are organized across the region.
Archaeological digs at Timargarha have uncovered burial sites from between the 18th and 6th centuries BC. These findings show that people have continuously lived in this region for thousands of years.
