Malakand Division, Administrative division in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.
Malakand Division is an administrative region in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa comprising nine districts including Swat, Shangla, Buner, and both Chitral districts. The territory spans various districts and brings together several areas under one administrative structure.
The area became Malakand Division in 1970 after integrating the former princely states of Chitral, Dir, and Swat into a unified administrative system. This reorganization created the region as it exists today.
Pashto is spoken by most residents and shapes everyday conversation, while traditional music and dancing remain central to celebrations and community gatherings. These customs continue to define how people here connect with each other.
Mingora serves as the regional center for government services, healthcare, education, and commerce, making it the main hub for visitors needing local facilities. From there, travelers can access different parts of the region easily.
The region holds substantial deposits of marble, granite, and chromite that have long been part of its economy. At the same time, olive cultivation projects through international partnerships represent a newer agricultural direction.
