Broghil Valley National Park, National park in Chitral District, Pakistan.
Broghil Valley National Park is a mountain reserve in northwestern Pakistan that holds around 30 freshwater lakes surrounded by glaciers and high peaks. Elevations range from 3,280 to 4,304 meters, creating a rugged alpine landscape with sparse vegetation and dramatic terrain.
The park was established to protect ancient trade routes connecting Pakistan with the Afghan Wakhan corridor, routes that have been used for centuries. This region served as a passage for caravans linking different cultural areas across the mountains.
The valley hosts an annual festival showcasing yak polo and traditional wool crafts made by local artisans. These practices reflect how people here have adapted to mountain life and continue to celebrate their heritage through sports and handmade goods.
Access is best from June to August when basic lodging like Lake View Hotel and Ghizer Blossom Inn Hotel operate. Visitors should prepare for high-altitude conditions and limited services since the area is remote and sparsely populated.
The area holds Karambar Lake, Pakistan's second-highest lake, with water clarity of about 13.75 meters, the clearest in the country. This transparency is uncommon among mountain lakes and lets you see the lake bottom from the surface.
