Batura Sar

Batura Sar is a high mountain peak in Gilgit-Baltistan that rises to about 7,800 meters, standing as one of the taller summits in this mountain range. The mountain sits above the Baltar Glacier, where climbers set up their base and then occupy several camps at higher elevations as they ascend.

The first successful climb took place in 1976 when an expedition from Göppingen led by Dr. Alexander Schlee reached the summit. This achievement marked an important moment for the climbing community in the region and opened the way for further expeditions on this peak.

The mountain sits within the Gojal region of the Hunza Valley, where local communities maintain their traditional ways of life while engaging with mountain tourism. Visitors notice how local porters and guides navigate the climbing routes while keeping their own knowledge of the mountains alive.
