Ranigat, Buddhist ruins in Buner Valley, Pakistan.
Ranigat is a Buddhist archaeological site spread across mountain slopes in the Buner Valley. The complex contains monasteries, shrines, stupas, and ancient structures arranged across different elevations.
The site began as a Buddhist center in the 2nd century during the Gandhara period. It remained occupied for several centuries before people gradually abandoned it around the 6th century.
The ruins show how Buddhist monks built monasteries and shrines that blend with the mountain landscape. You can still see how structures were arranged to follow the natural slope and terrain.
Constructed stairs and pathways lead to various sections of the complex at different elevations. Wear comfortable hiking shoes and plan extra time for climbing between the different areas.
A large rock formation at the site marks a natural boundary between two administrative districts. This geographical feature shaped where the complex was built and how people moved through it.
