Cypress Tomb, Indo-Islamic tomb in Begumpura, Lahore, Pakistan

Cypress Tomb is an Indo-Islamic tomb in Begumpura featuring a tapering tower with a pyramidal vault. Its exterior walls are decorated with detailed blue and white tile work throughout.

The monument was built between 1735 and 1740 as a resting place for Sharf-un-Nisa Begam, sister of Lahore governor Nawab Zakariya Khan. Its construction took place during a period of Indo-Islamic architectural flourishing in the region.

The tomb displays tiles from Varanasi featuring cypress and floral patterns, blending Islamic architectural elements with local Indian design traditions. These decorative choices show how different artistic styles merged in this space.

The structure stands near the Grand Trunk Road and is accessible by local transport. The Begumpura area has dining options and other amenities nearby, making visits straightforward.

The burial chamber sits elevated above ground level, departing from traditional Islamic underground burial practices. This unusual placement was chosen to maintain the occupant's privacy.
