Wadowice, Historical city in Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Poland.
Wadowice is a town on the Skawa River in southern Poland, located at the foot of the Little Beskids. The compact center spreads around a rectangular market square, with narrow streets leading toward residential neighborhoods and parks.
The settlement received town rights in 1430 under Kulm law after a major fire required laying out a completely new urban plan. During the 19th century, it grew into an important trading center between Krakow and the Carpathian foothills.
The main square with its central fountain remains a meeting point for locals who shop or rest on its benches. Around the town hall, families often gather on weekends to visit bakeries or stroll through the streets.
The town is easy to explore on foot since most sights sit around the main square or within a few streets nearby. For trips into the nearby mountains, it helps to check trail information and starting points ahead of time.
A plaque on a building near the market square marks the site of one of Poland's oldest printing houses. The printing tradition shaped local crafts and the spread of written works in the region for centuries.
