Pomerelia, Historical region in northern Poland.
Pomerelia is a historical region along the Baltic Sea coast of northern Poland, stretching between the Vistula River and Western Pomerania. The area includes several distinct landscapes such as Kashubia and Tuchola Forest, connecting coastal cities like Gdansk with rural and forested areas.
The territory came under Polish control in 1466 after the Thirteen Years' War, ending Teutonic Order rule and uniting it with the Polish kingdom. This shift shaped the region for centuries and connected it permanently to Polish history.
The region preserves Kashubian traditions through festivals and crafts that remain visible in villages and towns today. Visitors notice regional character in local architecture, food, and the stories people share about their homeland.
The best time to visit is spring or autumn when weather is mild and roads are easy to explore. Gdansk is the main gateway with good train connections from Warsaw and a network of buses connecting all major towns.
The region is divided into four distinct landscape zones, each with its own geography and character. Kashubia, Kociewie, Tuchola Forest, and Chelmno Land together form a patchwork of very different environments.
