A2 autostrada, Major toll motorway in central Poland
The A2 is a toll motorway stretching 669 kilometers through five Polish regions, running from the German border at Świecko to Warsaw. It passes through changing terrain and regions, with different sections completed at various stages of development.
Initial construction began in the 1970s but was interrupted by economic difficulties. Substantial expansion and completion of various sections took place from 2001 onwards.
Each regional section of the motorway reflects local architectural elements through bridge designs and rest area structures incorporating traditional Polish motifs.
Drivers need electronic payment methods or Polish zloty for toll sections, with fees varying by vehicle type and distance. Planning a stop at rest areas makes sense for longer journeys.
The Gliwice-Sosnica junction is one of the country's largest motorway intersections, managing traffic flows from multiple directions. This connection demonstrates the complexity of modern Polish road infrastructure.
