Gmina Nowa Słupia, Town in Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, Poland
Nowa Słupia is a town in south-central Poland, in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, at the foot of Łysa Góra. It serves as the seat of an urban-rural municipality that includes 20 villages and covers an area of 85.94 square kilometers.
The area has a long history of iron smelting, dating back to ancient times, and archaeological sites have revealed furnaces from that era. In the 17th century, a late Baroque church was built in the town, and it was later expanded in the 20th century.
The town is known for its annual Dymarki Świętokrzyskie festival, where iron smelting using ancient methods is demonstrated. This event, held since 1968, draws visitors who come to see the reenactment of a craft practiced here two thousand years ago.
The town is small and easy to explore on foot, with the main square and church within a short walk of each other. Visitors can use it as a base for hiking in the surrounding hills, and the tourist information point helps with maps and local advice.
The town is home to the Museum of Ancient Metallurgy, which displays findings from the nearby excavation sites. It also has a historic church with a black marble altar and a 17th-century crucifix.
