Cistercian monastery in Gościkowo-Paradyż

The Cistercian monastery in Gościkowo-Paradyż displays Gothic architecture with two prominent towers on its facade and spreads across extensive grounds near the Paklica river. The complex comprises several buildings arranged around cloisters, which are typical of Cistercian layouts.

It was founded in 1236 when Mikołaj Bronisz, governor of Poznań province, donated nine villages and the settlement of Gościkowo to Brandenburg Abbey. This generous grant allowed the monks to establish a prosperous monastery in the region.

The monastery houses a Catholic seminary and continues its educational role through theological studies while maintaining Cistercian traditions. The monks shape daily life at the site through their prayer and teaching.

The complex is easy to explore from outside as the buildings are visible from local roads. The nearest larger town with accommodations and restaurants is roughly 20 kilometers away.

A Polish commemorative coin from 2023 honors the monastery as part of a series celebrating the country. This collector's keepsake reflects the site's importance to national heritage.
