Bieszczady County, Administrative territorial entity in Subcarpathian Voivodeship, Poland.
Bieszczady County is an administrative region in southeastern Poland within the Subcarpathian Voivodeship, featuring mountainous terrain divided into three smaller administrative units. The area contains extensive forests and partly overlaps with Bieszczady National Park.
This county was formed in 1999 as part of a major administrative reform and lost its western portion in 2002, which became the separate Lesko County. These territorial changes shaped its current boundaries.
The region shows the marks of multiple communities that have lived here over time, visible in local customs and the way people interact near the borders with Slovakia and Ukraine. The mixed heritage shapes how residents approach daily life and celebrations.
County services are centered in Ustrzyki Dolne, the main town in the southeastern part of the region. Traveling by car is the best way to explore the scattered settlements and forests across the area.
The area has one of the lowest population densities in Poland, meaning visitors encounter vast forests and widely spaced communities rather than developed towns. This emptiness has kept much of the natural landscape untouched.
