Gdynia Aquarium

Gdynia Aquarium, Public aquarium on South Pier, Gdynia, Poland

Gdynia Aquarium is a public marine facility located on the South Pier that displays animals from various water depths and environments. The eight exhibition halls showcase fish, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates in recreated habitats.

The aquarium opened in 1971 following earlier attempts in the 1920s and 1930s that did not succeed under the Sea Fisheries Institute. It became an established fixture on the waterfront.

The facility carries the name of a Baltic coastal city and reflects its maritime identity. The display spaces are arranged to help visitors understand the connection between local waters and the broader diversity of sea life.

Entry is straightforward with clearly marked halls that are easy to navigate. Visitors should expect stairs and varying floor levels, so comfortable footwear is recommended.

A distinctive feature is the Wet Room, where visitors can touch and feed marine animals in shallow open-top tanks. This direct contact with the creatures makes the experience memorable for many guests.
