Sośnicowice, Municipality in Silesian Voivodeship, Poland
Sośnicowice is a municipality in Silesian Voivodeship in southern Poland, located southwest of Gliwice. The area sits between the Kłodnica and Bierawka rivers at an elevation of about 250 meters.
The settlement was first documented in 1305 as Soßnessowitz, and Ferdinand I granted it town rights in 1526. This privilege came after local residents cleared extensive forest to prepare the land for habitation.
The place name reflects centuries of settlement by German-speaking communities who shaped the region. This multilingual past remains visible today in the buildings and landscape that tell of shared cultural roots.
The municipality is well connected by road to nearby Gliwice and Kędzierzyn-Koźle. The international Katowice airport is roughly 40 kilometers away and serves as the main travel hub for the area.
A late Baroque castle built in 1755 stands as the most prominent structure in the municipal center. Its Gothic parish church of St James nearby forms an architectural pair that reflects the layered building history of the place.
