Saint George church in Gliwice

The wooden Saint George church sits on a small hill with a stone chancel. The nave is built from wooden logs on brick foundations and topped by a square tower.

The church was built around 1500 and underwent multiple reconstructions over the centuries. Major renovations occurred in 1640, with significant changes to the chancel in 1668.

The north wall of the nave holds Baroque paintings from 1667 to 1668 depicting scenes of the Passion. These wall paintings display preserved artistic details from that era.

The building is accessible from the outside and located in a quiet residential area with plenty of space to explore. A visit provides a good view of the traditional wooden church architecture typical of this region.

Dendrochronological studies reveal that the church tower dates back to the 1540s, making it the oldest structural element. This makes the tower a valuable testament to early wooden construction techniques.
