Bohoniki, Tatar village in Podlaskie Voivodeship, Poland

Bohoniki is a small village in Podlaskie Voivodeship, situated about 7 kilometers east of Sokółka. It is known for its wooden mosque built around 1873 after a previous structure was destroyed.

The village was founded as a settlement of the Lipka Tatars, a Muslim population group with Turkic roots. Its development is linked to the arrival of this community in the region during the medieval period.

The Muslim cemetery displays tombstones with Arabic inscriptions mixed with text in the Ruthenian language. This blend of scripts reflects the heritage of the Lipka Tatars who made this place their home.

The location is relatively remote and best reached by private transport. Visitors should allow time to explore the village at a leisurely pace and take in its local history.

The mosque underwent major restoration in 2003, with its tin roof replaced by wooden shingles. This work preserved regional building traditions and restored the structure to its historical appearance.
