Grabarka Holy Mount, Orthodox monastery in Grabarka-Klasztor, Poland
Grabarka Holy Mount is an Orthodox monastery in Grabarka-Klasztor, eastern Poland, set on a forested hill. Three churches stand on the grounds, surrounded by dense rows of wooden crosses brought by pilgrims from different countries.
Monks sought refuge in the surrounding forests and protected sacred icons from persecution in earlier centuries. The monastery received official status as a religious site in 1978 and has since grown into an important place of pilgrimage.
The site draws thousands of Orthodox pilgrims each year, especially on August 19 for the Feast of the Transfiguration. Many believers leave wooden crosses across the grounds as personal offerings and signs of devotion.
Visitors can attend daily services and explore the monastery grounds throughout the year between sunrise and sunset. Sturdy footwear is recommended for the hillside paths, especially in wet weather.
A fire in 1990 completely destroyed the main church, yet the ancient icons inside remained undamaged. The church was then rebuilt in 1998 and the rescued icons were installed again in their place.
