Gutkowo, Residential district in northwestern Olsztyn, Poland.
Gutkowo is a residential quarter in northwestern Olsztyn that extends over about 7 square kilometers along Lake Ukiel, structured by local streets and green spaces. The area combines housing with open land and provides a reasonably quiet urban environment for its residents.
The area was founded in 1352 as a Prussian village called Godeken and remained rural for centuries before merging with Olsztyn in 1987. This transition marked the shift from countryside settlement to integrated urban district.
The Parish Church of St. Lawrence from the 14th century serves as the religious focal point, complemented by numerous roadside chapels built after 1850 throughout the area. These structures shape how residents and visitors perceive the district's spiritual character.
The quarter connects to central Olsztyn through several bus routes, with Bałtycka Street serving as the main traffic artery through the area. Walking paths along the lakes are accessible and make for pleasant strolls in good weather.
The quarter borders Lake Ukiel and contains the smaller Lake Redykajny, giving residents direct waterfront access within city limits. This abundance of water shapes daily life and creates opportunities for water-based activities.
