Kamienica Hermana Konstadta

Kamienica Hermana Konstadta is a tenement house on Piotrkowska Street in Łódź with eclectic brick design. It features French Renaissance elements including two atlantes supporting a bay window and caryatids on the upper floors, plus a high mansard roof with decorative dormers.

Built between 1883 and 1885 by architect Julius Jung, this structure replaced an earlier weaver's house on a plot purchased for 40,000 rubles. It became a protected monument starting in 1971 and was registered in the national heritage list.

The building contributed to Piotrkowska Street's development as a major business hub, housing various commercial enterprises over the decades. Its ornate facade reflected the era's taste for displaying prosperity and business success through architectural grandeur.

The building is easy to locate on Piotrkowska Street in the city center, where numerous other historic structures line the way. The entire facade is visible from street level, so you can appreciate the details while walking past on the sidewalk.

The roof features an iron balustrade with decorative elements that catch attention only when you look up, showing how craftsmen paid careful attention to every part of the building. This attention to quality throughout the structure was typical of what the wealthy business class of Łódź expected.
