Jakub Hertz's palace

Jakub Hertz's palace is a modern building in Katedralna characterized by clean geometric lines and pronounced symmetrical composition. The facade features multiple large windows that bring light inside and give the structure an open, generous appearance.

The palace was built in the early 1900s through the collaboration of three architects: Julius Jung, Hilary Majewski, and Marian Lalewicz. At the same time, a gatehouse was constructed as a separate protected structure that completed the architectural ensemble.

The building is named after a Łódź merchant and reflects the architectural tastes of the industrial era in its design choices. The symmetrical facade and generous windows convey wealth and urban status, as one would expect from grand residential architecture of that period.

The building is located in the city center of Łódź near the Medical University and is easy to reach. The facade can be well observed from the street, and the location allows comparison with neighboring structures from the same era.

Beside the main palace stands an independently protected gatehouse built between 1902 and 1903 and registered at a separate address. This small auxiliary structure shows how carefully the entire complex was designed and how important entrance and driveway access were for such grand residences.
