Monument to victims of the 2010 Polish Air Force Tu-154 crash at the Military Cemetery in Warsaw

Monument to victims of the 2010 Polish Air Force Tu-154 crash at the Military Cemetery in Warsaw, Memorial at Military Cemetery in Warsaw, Poland

The monument to the victims of the 2010 crash is located at the Military Cemetery and consists of two white stone rectangular blocks positioned to represent a broken structure sinking into the ground. The site contains burial plots for 28 victims and a black stone tablet beneath the monument that covers urns holding the remains of 12 individuals.

This memorial honors the 96 victims of a Polish Air Force Tu-154 aircraft crash that occurred near Smolensk, Russia on April 10, 2010. The catastrophe prompted the creation of this burial site and monument to remember those who were lost.

The names of all victims are inscribed without titles or distinctions, emphasizing equal recognition of each person in this tragedy. Visitors can see how the memorial treats everyone the same, making it a place for personal remembrance rather than hierarchy.

The cemetery is located in the Żoliborz district and can be reached on foot or by public transportation. Keep in mind that this is an active burial site, so respectful behavior is important for all visitors.

The monument was constructed using special stones, including Indian Precambrian gneiss known as white imperial granite, along with other high-quality materials. The choice of these materials gives the memorial a subtle nobility that matches its significance.
