Osiek nad Notecią, Rural museum village in Piła County, Poland.
Osiek nad Notecią is a village in west-central Poland, situated on the Noteć River within Gmina Wyrzysk. It is best known for its open-air museum, which gathers original wooden rural buildings from the surrounding region.
Archaeological finds in the area point to human settlement as far back as 500 BC. The village grew as a farming community over the centuries before gaining wider attention in the 20th century with the creation of its open-air museum.
The open-air museum brings together original farmhouses and mills moved from North Wielkopolska and Krajna to one place. Walking among the buildings gives a real sense of how rural families in this part of Poland once lived and worked.
The village is reached by local roads from Wyrzysk and nearby towns, so having your own transport makes the visit easier. Larger services such as places to eat or stay are found in the surrounding area rather than in the village itself.
General Władysław Anders, one of the most recognized figures of 20th-century Polish military history, had a family connection to this area through his father, who managed horse stables in nearby Pracz. Most visitors to the village are unaware of this link.
