Pogwizdów is a village in Gmina Hażlach located along the Olza River in southern Poland. It spreads across rolling hills and maintains road connections to nearby communities.
The village was first documented in 1447 as Pogwyzdow and initially belonged to the Duchy of Teschen. It later passed to Habsburg rule after 1526.
The village population includes a mixture of Roman Catholic and Protestant residents, with many speaking the regional Cieszyn Silesian dialect.
The village is about 32 kilometers west of Bielsko-Biała and accessible by local roads. Visitors can easily reach neighboring communities and explore paths in the surrounding area.
A severe famine between 1848 and 1849 reduced the village to just two surviving families, an event that fundamentally altered its population structure. This demographic collapse became a defining watershed moment in the settlement's story.
