Podgórze Old Cemetery

The old Podgórze cemetery is a historic burial ground featuring marble tombstones, stone crosses, and family vaults that reflect different artistic styles from its past. The grounds reveal various architectural details and craftsmanship typical of cemetery design from the 18th and 19th centuries.

The cemetery was established between 1786 and 1792 following an imperial order to create a burial ground for Podgórze. It functioned as the main cemetery for over a century before a newer facility took its place in 1900.

The cemetery holds graves of local residents whose names and stories are preserved on the tombstones scattered throughout the grounds. Walking here reveals how families marked their connections to this place across generations.

The grounds are accessible year-round, though seasonal changes and weather conditions affect how the site looks and feels during your visit. Walking paths can be uneven in places, so wear suitable footwear and allow time to explore at a leisurely pace.
