Koci Łeb Tower in Toruń

Koci Łeb Tower is a circular fortified structure within Toruń's city walls, built with Gothic bricks and topped with crenellations. The tower contains multiple levels above ground and medieval cellars below, displaying both Gothic and Neo-Gothic architectural features.

Built in the 13th century, the tower was damaged during a Swedish assault in 1703. Reconstruction used original Gothic materials, preserving the medieval fortification's architectural character.

The name Cat's Head originates from a local legend about a cat that alerted defenders during a Swedish siege. This story remains part of the city's oral tradition and shows how such tales shape how residents connect with their medieval past.

The tower is located at Podmurna Street 74 and currently houses the Department of Psychology at Nicolaus Copernicus University. Access to certain areas may be limited since it primarily functions as an academic building rather than a public attraction.

The subterranean chambers contain medieval cellars that often escape visitor attention. These underground spaces reveal how the original tower design incorporated storage and defense below ground level.
