Gontowa

Gontowa is a forested summit in the Owl Mountains with gentle slopes and wooded terrain on all sides. The peak provides views across the surrounding landscape and can be reached via several marked hiking paths.

The mountain formed naturally as a geographic feature and was later modified during World War II with underground structures. This tunnel system, known as Project Riese, was excavated by forced laborers and altered the mountain's interior structure permanently.

Local accommodations like Dom Sowie Klimaty preserve regional traditions through architecture and provide visitors with information about Lower Silesian customs.

The mountain is accessible on foot with trails offering different difficulty levels for various experience levels. The marked paths are well-maintained and most easily accessed during warmer months.

The mountain contains extensive underground chambers that remain partially unexplored beneath the surface. Archaeologists regularly discover new rooms and passages that reveal details about wartime construction methods.
