Fountain "The Deluge" in Bydgoszcz, Bronze fountain in Kazimierz Wielki Park, Bydgoszcz, Poland.
The Fountain "The Deluge" in Bydgoszcz is a bronze monument in Kazimierz Wielki Park with a central sculptural group that rises about 6 meters (20 feet) high. Multiple figures of people and animals appear to struggle against rising water, with distinct scenes combining to portray this dramatic subject matter.
The monument was created in 1904 by sculptor Ferdinand Lepcke and originally graced the park with his artistic vision. During World War II, it was dismantled in 1943 when its bronze materials were seized for military production.
The fountain tells the story of the Great Flood through multiple sculptural groups showing people and animals fighting against the water. The central scene depicts a figure supporting a fainting woman, making the human struggle during this biblical catastrophe visible to viewers.
The monument has a modern water system and lighting that allow you to enjoy it in both daylight and after dark. The park setting makes it freely accessible at any time, with no barriers or special requirements to see it up close.
After its destruction during the war, the monument could only be faithfully reconstructed thanks to a surviving replica in Coburg, Germany. Craftspeople used this reference to recreate every detail of the original bronze sculpture with great precision.
