Floating fountain commemorating the 750 anniversary of granting town privileges to Poznań, Zierbrunnen in Polen
The Floating Fountain is a large water installation that floats on Malta Lake in Poznań, shooting water from 13 nozzles up to 60 meters high into the air. Nine color settings illuminate the jets and cycle every 20 minutes, creating a constantly changing display above the water surface.
The fountain opened on June 29, 2003, created to celebrate the 750th anniversary of Poznań receiving city rights. It underwent major renovation and reopened on April 29, 2010, with improved technology and lighting systems that enhanced its visual impact.
The fountain commemorates the granting of city rights to Poznań in 1253, marking a key moment in the city's development that residents still celebrate today. It serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors watch the water displays, especially during evening hours when the colored lights illuminate the performance.
The fountain operates from May through late September during warmer months. A safety zone about 20 meters wide surrounds the installation where visitors should not enter, as large amounts of water can fall with force.
Approximately 250 kilograms of water cascade down each second, creating a cooling mist around the installation and aerating the lake below. This ecological benefit helps keep the water clearer while making the area more comfortable for visitors during warm days.
