Bagno Jacka Nature Reserve

Bagno Jacka is a peat bog reserve covering about 20 hectares in the Wesoła district of Warsaw. The area contains three separate water bodies surrounded by forests and sandy ridges that form a complex wetland ecosystem.

The area was protected in 1981 by the Ministry of Forestry and Wood Industry to preserve the peatlands following earlier peat extraction. The designation aimed to restore and safeguard these transitional bog habitats for the future.

The natural area appears in Andrzej Wajda's 1970 film 'Brzezina', bringing national attention to these wetlands and their ecological importance.

The reserve interior is closed to visitors because the peatland plants are delicate and need careful protection. This restriction helps maintain the ecological balance and prevent damage to the sensitive vegetation.

Scientists have documented over 300 vascular plant species here, including white water lilies, downy birch, and several protected orchid varieties. This rich plant diversity makes it a valuable refuge for endangered flora.
