Nature reserve Wyspy Zawadowskie

Wyspy Zawadowskie is a reserve covering about 530 hectares of wetlands, riverbanks, and varied plant communities along the Vistula River near Warsaw. The site includes multiple river islands, wet meadows, and forests that create habitats for diverse bird species and water-loving plants.

The area was protected in 1999 during Poland's post-communist environmental conservation efforts to preserve river habitats. This designation marked a turning point in efforts to safeguard the Vistula wetlands for future generations.

The reserve serves as a learning space where local schools conduct field studies about river ecosystems and native birds throughout the year. Visitors can observe how the Vistula landscape supports diverse life and why this area matters for environmental education.

Reach the reserve by taking the 702 bus from Warsaw to Józefów, then walk along marked paths to explore the area. Wear sturdy shoes and respect any restricted areas during nesting season to protect wildlife.
