Rezerwat przyrody Jezioro Hańcza

Jezioro Hańcza Nature Reserve is a glacial lake in the Podlaskie region distinguished by extreme depth. The water reaches over 100 meters at its deepest point, making it the deepest lake in the country.

The lake basin formed during the last Ice Age through glacial erosion beneath a thick ice sheet. A meltwater tunnel under the ice carved into the ground and created the current deep depression.

The lake is home to animal species that have survived since the last Ice Age and live in its cold waters. Visitors can sense the scientific importance of the place when observing this unusual wildlife.

The northern shore is accessible for swimmers and offers pleasant conditions for bathing. On the eastern shore, divers can descend into the clear waters and explore the underwater landscape.

The underwater ground drops very steeply and is covered with moraine clay, creating slopes that angle distinctly from the shore. This unusual structure creates a remarkable underwater landscape for divers to encounter.
