Rezerwat przyrody Krowia Wyspa

Krowia Wyspa is a nature reserve situated within the Vistula River near Kazimierz Dolny, protecting an island complex with sandy shallows and riverine habitats. The site covers roughly 62 hectares within the Kazimierski Landscape Park, featuring diverse water-dependent ecosystems and vegetation zones along the riverbanks.

Local farmers historically grazed cattle on the island throughout summer months, which inspired the site's name. This traditional pastoral practice shaped the landscape and held cultural significance for the surrounding communities.

The site serves as a crucial nesting area for waterbirds, particularly oystercatchers and plovers, which rely on this location for breeding. Visitors can observe these birds going about their natural routines during the nesting season.

The reserve is accessible only by water, with kayaking and canoeing being the most practical ways to explore the site. Early morning visits offer the best opportunities to observe bird activity without disturbing nesting areas.

The island's size shifts with the Vistula River's water levels, meaning no two visits to the location are ever identical. This constant transformation creates a different natural experience with each trip.
