Windmill in Męćmierz, Post mill in Męćmierz, Poland.
The Windmill in Męćmierz is a three-story wooden post mill with vertical weatherboard cladding standing on a high escarpment above the Vistula River. The structure rests on brick foundations and overlooks the river valley below.
The mill was built in 1911 in the village of Osiny and relocated to Męćmierz in 1975. The move was carried out as part of preservation efforts to protect this historical structure for future generations.
The structure showcases traditional Polish milling architecture with its rectangular layout, pitched roof, and decorative wooden carvings on the front facade. Visitors can observe how such buildings once defined the rural character of the Vistula region.
The interior can be visited Tuesday through Sunday from 9 AM to 4 PM, with part of the space operating as a seasonal cafe. The hilltop location provides good views but involves some climbing from the parking area.
The entire structure rotates around a central wooden post mounted on brick foundations, allowing it to turn according to wind direction. This rotating mechanism was an ingenious design that enabled millers to keep the sails optimally aligned with the wind.
