Schronisko na Śnieżnicy, Mountain hut in Beskid Wyspowy, Poland.
Schronisko na Śnieżnicy is a mountain hut in the Beskid Wyspowy range, comprised of five residential buildings and a chapel positioned on a southern slope. The facility provides accommodation for groups and families with sports areas and indoor halls for various activities.
The shelter was founded in 1936 by Father Józef Winkowski as a summer retreat for children. Following changes after 1989, it evolved into a facility serving broader group activities and youth ministry programs.
The chapel contains a reproduction of a Madonna painting gifted by Pope John Paul II, which gives the place a spiritual character that visitors can sense when inside.
The facility sits on a mountain slope and is accessible via hiking trails of varying difficulty from surrounding areas. Prior planning is advisable, as reaching the location requires time and preparation for extended stays is recommended.
The property originally encompassed 170 hectares of forest, of which only 5.5 hectares were recovered for youth programs after 1989. This dramatic land change reflects the complex local history following the political transformation.
