Kościuszko Dam in Kraków

Kościuszko Dam is a water management structure spanning roughly 184 meters across the Vistula River with spillways and gates for controlling water levels. The design creates a more stable river surface while serving the needs of the urban area downstream.

Construction began in the early 20th century to address Kraków's growing water infrastructure needs. Its completion was a key moment in developing modern water management systems for the expanding city.

The dam is named after Tadeusz Kościuszko, a military leader who left his mark on both Polish and American history. For locals, it has become part of how they experience the river as it flows through their city.

The banks around the structure provide spaces for walking, cycling, and fishing with paths open year-round. It's wise to avoid the area during high water periods when levels can rise considerably.
