Orthodox Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Wrocław, Eastern Orthodox cathedral in Wrocław, Poland
The Orthodox Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is a brick building in Wrocław with Gothic features including pointed arches and ribbed vaults. It measures approximately 33 meters in length and 25 meters in width.
The building started as a wooden cemetery chapel in the 15th century. Following major damage during World War II, it was rebuilt and has served the Orthodox Diocese of Wrocław-Szczecin since 1963.
The cathedral stands within the Four Denominations District, alongside Evangelical, Jewish, and Catholic places of worship, reflecting religious diversity in Wrocław. This location serves as a reminder of how different faiths coexist peacefully in the city today.
The cathedral is located at św. Mikołaja 40 in central Wrocław. The site is easily accessible on foot and sits among other religious buildings in the neighborhood.
The building served as a garrison church for the military from 1741 to 1920. This extended period as a military chapel was a significant chapter before it became a place of worship for the Orthodox community.
