Piast tower in Cieszyn, Gothic defense tower in Cieszyn, Poland.

The Piast tower in Cieszyn is a stone structure on Castle Hill containing four distinct levels, including an underground dungeon and residential spaces. The building features an observation platform that provides views across the town from its upper section.

The tower was built during the 14th century as part of the castle's defense system. An additional storey with machicolation was added by the end of the 15th century to strengthen its protective role.

The tower displays heraldic shields with the Piast eagle at its corners, representing the medieval dynasty that once ruled this region. These symbols remain visible today and connect the building to the local sense of history and identity.

A stone stairway with roughly 120 steps leads to the observation platform at the tower's top. Wear sturdy shoes as the stairs are narrow and steep in places.

An underground ice tunnel beneath the tower was used in medieval times to store beer and keep it cold. This clever system shows how people of that era managed food preservation without modern refrigeration.
