Wieżowiec Miastoprojektu w Poznaniu, Modernist skyscraper in central Poznań, Poland.
Description
The Miastoprojekt Tower sits on Niepodległości Avenue with ten stories featuring vertical pilasters and distinctive eagle sculptures crowning its roof. The building holds numerous corporate offices, with ground floor arcades, reinforced basement ceilings, and a recessed upper level.
History
Completed in 1951, this structure was the first high-rise building in post-war Poznań, designed by architects Stanisław Pogórski and Tadeusz Płończak. It marked the beginning of a new construction era in the city and established standards for future tall buildings.
Culture
The tower combines socialist realist and modernist elements, with rusticated side walls that echo the architectural language of the Imperial District nearby.
Practical
The tower is easy to view from outside, standing on a wide avenue with good visibility and clear sight lines from street level. Ground floor arcades provide shelter if you want to examine the exterior structure and decorative details more closely.
Did you know?
The building served as headquarters for reconstruction ministries while design offices occupied the upper floors, making it both an administrative center and a planning hub for the city's post-war vision. This dual role as both government seat and creative workspace gave it unusual importance during the early rebuilding years.
