Market hall in Chorzów

The market hall in Chorzów is a two-story building with multiple commercial spaces and roughly 500 stalls on the ground floor plus about 150 stalls on the upper level. The complex offers fresh produce, meat, fish, and other daily goods for residents and visitors.

The building was constructed in 1905 and was the first market hall of its kind in Upper Silesia with electric lighting and water supply. This infrastructure made it a modernized trading center for the then-growing industrial region.

The building displays neo-Gothic decorative elements on its facade, including sculptures of fish, animals, and fruit that reflect local trade customs. These ornamental details tell the story of the region's economic roots and the market's importance to the community.

The best time to shop is early in the morning when selection is greatest and crowds are smallest. The hall is easily accessible with multiple entrances, making it comfortable to explore different areas.

The original facade of the building still stands behind a newer structure positioned about one meter away. This preserves the possibility of future restoration of the historical architecture if circumstances allow.
