Nature reserve Kamienie Brodzińskiego, Nature reserve at Pogórze Wiśnickie, Poland
Nature reserve Kamienie Brodzińskiego is a protected area at Pogórze Wiśnickie known for its impressive sandstone rock formations. The most notable feature is the Great Stone, which rises 11 meters high and stretches 16 meters in length.
The Polish Tatra Society purchased the land in 1938 to establish this nature reserve. This acquisition represented an early effort in organized conservation efforts across Poland.
The reserve is named after Kazimierz Brodziński, a University of Warsaw professor who drew inspiration from these rocks for his poetry. The rock formations shape the character of the place today and attract visitors interested in nature and literary history.
An educational trail of about one kilometer guides visitors through a pine forest with information panels along the way. These panels explain the geological formations and local wildlife you encounter during your walk.
The sandstone formations date back 65 million years and display natural colors ranging from pale beige to deep red. This color variation results from different mineral compositions found in the various rock layers throughout the site.
