Construction began in 1984 following an architect's design and was completed in 1989, yet the formal consecration took place more than a decade later in 2000. This extended gap between completion and blessing shaped the building's history.

The main altar features a sculpture depicting the Baptism of Christ created by a renowned artist in 1994, while colored stained glass windows in the side aisles filter the light. These artworks shape the visual impression when entering the space.
