Grunwaldzki Mound, Summit in Niepołomice, Poland
The Grunwaldzki Mound is an earthen mound standing 14 meters tall with a base diameter of about 30 meters, situated in the town of Niepołomice. A cross monument crowns its summit, offering views across the surrounding landscape.
The Polish Sokół gymnastics organization built this mound in 1910 to commemorate 500 years since the Battle of Grunwald victory. This project was part of a broader effort to establish national monuments across different regions of Poland.
The mound holds soil collected from different Polish battlefields and graves of Polish emigrants in America, serving as a symbol of national connection.
The mound sits about one kilometer from Niepołomice town center and is freely accessible with benches for resting. A playground and paths nearby make it easy to explore on foot.
From the summit cross, visitors can see the Vistula River valley, the Niepołomice Forest, and the distant transmission tower Chorągwica. This panorama reveals the diverse landscape that surrounds the area.
