Saint Joseph church in Poznań, Baroque church on Św Wojciecha Hill, Poznań, Poland
Saint Joseph Church is a Baroque building on Świętego Wojciecha Hill featuring three naves arranged in a cross shape. The exterior displays decorative niches, cornices, and molded profiles that give the facade its distinctive appearance.
Construction began in 1644 and continued until 1677, with architect Krzysztof Bonadura Starszy overseeing the initial phase before Jerzy Catenazzi took over. The extended building period produced the complex baroque structure visible today.
The church takes its name from its patron saint, and visitors see paintings by Albert Tschautsch depicting biblical scenes throughout the interior. A central image of Saint Joseph with the Infant shapes the religious focus of the space.
The church operates as an active place of worship with regular services connected to the Higher Seminary of Discalced Carmelites. Visitors should keep in mind that this remains a working religious space.
A marble tombstone with an armored figure commemorates benefactor Wojciech Konarzewski, while a plaque honoring Mikołaj Skrzetuski can be found in the church vaults. These memorials recall individuals who held meaning for the community.
