Church of Our Lady of Consolation in Poznań

The Church of Our Lady of Consolation in the Podolany district is a modern structure with a low, wide design that lacks a traditional tower, featuring expansive glass sections across its front wall. Natural light flows through these transparent surfaces to fill the interior space.

Construction took place between 1970 and 1973 under the direction of architect Jan Kopydłowski and the initiative of Father Antoni Sroka. The building emerged as part of the district's development during that postwar period.

The dedication to Our Lady of Consolation shapes how visitors experience this place, with a crucifix by Edward Iwański serving as a focal point for prayer. The modern artistic choices reflect how worshippers of that era envisioned their sacred spaces.

The building stands out for its wide glass facade even without a towering spire, making it easy to spot from the street. Visitors will notice the brightness inside due to light entering from above and the front, creating an open, luminous interior.

The building intentionally lacks windows on its side walls, receiving light only from the glass facade and a skylight above the presbytery area. This unusual design focuses attention inward and creates a distinctive play of light within.
