Krzyżowa

Krzyżowa is a village in Lower Silesia featuring the Holy Trinity Church as its landmark and spreading across farmland and pastures. The International Youth Meeting Centre now forms the heart of the place, with remnants of the former estate grounds still visible.

The village became a meeting place for the Kreisau Circle resistance group during World War II, gathering at the Moltke family estate to oppose Nazi rule. After the war, it transformed into a symbol of reconciliation between Poland and Germany.

The International Youth Meeting Centre shapes the village today as a place where Polish and German visitors come together for exchange. Regular seminars and gatherings here support learning about shared history and future cooperation.

The village lies about 62 miles (100 kilometers) west of Wrocław and is accessible by regional transport, though the journey takes several hours. The center can be explored on foot, and the area offers basic facilities including small restaurants and accommodation options.

A significant reconciliation meeting between Polish and German leaders took place here in 1989 and led to the creation of the international center. This gathering is often overlooked today, though it marked a turning point in post-war Polish-German relations.
