St. Catherine church in Toruń

St. Catherine is a brick church in the Neo-Gothic style with vertical elements rising 86 meters high. The building was designed by Schönhals and features characteristic Gothic Revival details throughout its structure.

The building was constructed between 1894 and 1897 as a church for Protestant soldiers stationed at a nearby fortress. After 1920 it came under Polish Army management and took on new roles.

The name reflects medieval customs that still influence the city today and shape its crafts. The church stands in a region known for its special artisanal skills and local traditions.

The building is located at Szpitalna Street 1 and is accessible during regular opening hours. Guided tours explain the architecture and the place's development, which helps visitors understand the site better.

Nuns from the original chapel created a local sweet treat called katarzynki, which is now a recognized pastry of the city. This traditional craft remains closely tied to the place's name and heritage.
